Frequently Asked Questions
General Gameplay Questions:
What is the difference between a backyard barn and a private stable?
A backyard barn is similar to a mini barn. When you are a backyard barn owner, you must list yourself as backyard barn @ boarding barn. While you are a backyard barn, you are still technically boarding
with your mentor, but you have more prestige in the game (and more player benefits) than a boarder. A private stable owner is completely independent of their mentor and is free to list themself as such.
What is a webhost?
A webhost is an organization/company that provides you with webspace. Freewebs and Geocities are webhosts, for example. To participate in the game and to advance, players must have a website set up when they
reach backyard barn status. Some excellent free webhosts are Freewebs.com, Geocities.com, simdirectory.com and even google provides webspace. If you are new to HTML (page coding), it is suggested you begin with a simple
webhost that provides the code for you and you just enter the information.
Do you have to be at a certain player level in order to run an association, and is there a wait?
No, all player levels are welcome to own/run an association. There is no wait to open an association. If you're a brand new player and you see an association you'd like to run, you're more than welcome to
contact an administrator about it.
How are show placings determined?
In Arion, we use what are known as 'randomizers'. These are scripts that do just what you'd think they would: they randomize event placings. There are randomizers that are excellent for all disciplines as well
as discipline-specific ones, such as dressage randomizers. A dressage randomizer doesn't simply provide placings, it also provides percentages for tests. Simdirectory.com offers many wonderful randomizers.
Breeding Questions:
How long is a mare pregnant in Arion?
This is entirely up to you. Some players prefer to be realistic and list a mare as pregnant for eleven months, others simply create the foal. Remember, mares can only have one foal per year!
Do I have to wait a whole year to breed another foal from my mare then?
No, if your mare has other years 'open' (ex. she is a 1995 mare and the foal you just bred was a 2009), you're free to breed foals for her other years. Just keep in mind that a mare must be three
years old to be bred, otherwise you risk stunting her growth!
Does Arion follow 'real world' color genetics?
A horse must be a color that its sire and dam could realistically produce. If you need help determining possible realistic coat colors for your foal, please visit this site, which is a commonly used (and very accurate) coat color calculator.
What is the maximum age at which a mare can be bred?
There is no 'official' maximum age, it's just up to you to be realistic...obviously you wouldn't breed a 30 year old mare.
